DENTON -- North Texas women's tennis team won four championships Sunday at the six draw, round robin San Diego State Invite tournament.

The Mean Green claimed two singles titles and two doubles titles while easily dominating the SDSU Invite. The wins come a couple weeks after North Texas had a strong showing at the ITA Texas Regional and right before a much anticipated spring season.

"This was the perfect ending to the fall season," head coach Sujay Lama said. "Our execution was outstanding today."

Sunday, the Mean Green had two doubles teams in a final and three singles representatives.

Sophomore Maria Kononova and freshman Alexandra Heczey defeated a Kansas State team (6-4) for the title in the Black draw. Sophomore Minying Liang and Laura Arciniegas defeated a mix UC Irvine and San Diego State team (6-2) for the Red draw title.

In the singles tournament, Kononova won a singles title as well with a win over Arizona's Camila Weabrooks (2-6, 6-0, 6-4) in the Red draw.

Arciniegas also won a singles title. The sophomore defeated SDSU's Paola Diaz (6-2, 6-1) in the Gold draw.

"We have grown a lot and gotten tougher physically and mentally," Lama said. "Now it's time to keep building on the success and continue developing. If we do so, there is lot to look forward to in the spring."

The Mean Green now have two months off before they travel to Dallas for the SMU Invite.
