DENTON, Texas (12/2/09) - North Texas Swimming & Diving heads to Austin, Texas, to take part in the Texas Invitational Thursday through Saturday.

Teams competing in the invitational will include No. 3 Arizona, No. 7 Auburn, No. 16 Wisconsin, Wyoming, UC Davis, Incarnate Word and the host, No. 4 Texas.

"This week is an exciting opportunity for our program," head coach Joe Dykstra said. "The Texas Invite marks the toughest competition that our program has ever faced to date, with 4 of the top 16 teams in the nation competing.  I am looking forward to seeing our girls step up their level of competitiveness and execution.  We have backed down our training intensity this week, and I expect us to post our fastest times of the season so far."

The meet will be set up to where there will be two sessions each day, a 10 a.m. session of preliminaries and then a 6 p.m. session of finals.

Diving, which will be contested all three days, will have more teams in attendance. UCLA, California, Hawaii, SMU, New Mexico and TCU will all be competing in the diving portion, but will not have their swim teams in action.

"This is a good rehearsal for the Sun Belt Championship format, and a fantastic opportunity to measure ourselves against the absolute best of the best in collegiate swimming and diving," said Dykstra.

The Mean Green is coming off a strong showing against Austin College, 216-58, and Southwestern, 218-50, and is looking to prove they belong among the nation's top tier programs.
