Swimming Breaks Record, Wins Meet

SHERMAN, TX (10/21/06) The Mean Green broke a school record in the 200 medley relay, helping to defeat Austin College, 161-62. This is the fourth consecutive win for North Texas over Austin College since the teams first met in 2000.

Newcomers Nicki Leslie, Hannah Bakke and Elizabeth Weiss, along with senior Lauren Harris teamed up to break the school record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:50.34. The previous record was 1:50.37, set last season at the Sun Belt Conference Championships.

North Texas Swimming and Diving Head Coach Joe Dykstra was pleased with the girl’s performance at the meet.

“There was a great team effort,” said Dykstra. “The girls got a chance to swim in events they don’t normally swim and they did a great job. They did a phenomenal job being enthusiastic and helping each other out. This also helped them get used to the schedule of a meet on the road. I am feeling very good about this team as we enter competition on Wednesday against TCU.”
