Gentile, Leslie Break Records As NT Remains Third

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (2/20/09) - The North Texas swimming & diving team is currently third with 404 points heading into the fourth and final day of the Sun Belt Championships in Nashville. Rosa Gentile and Nicole Leslie both broke school records to help put the Mean Green in a solid position behind Denver (494) and first place Western Kentucky (566).

In the 100 Butterfly, Rosa Gentile broke the school record twice on Friday. In the morning's preliminaries, she swam a 55.06 helping her place second. Then in the finals, she put up a 54.82 finishing second to Claire Donahue of Western Kentucky. Going into today, the record had been 56.98 set by Gentile earlier in the season.

Nicole Leslie set a new school mark with a 56.54 in the finals of the 100 Backstroke giving her sixth place. The former record (56.57) was owned by Bonnie Garcia-Meitin from last season's SBC Championships.

Erika Roach placed fifth in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:50.73 and the 400 Medley Relay team of Roach, Kristen Hempleman, Rosa Gentile, and Alicia Hale took fifth with a 3:51.73.

There are just seven events remaining for Saturday. The 1650 Freestyle will start tomorrow's action followed by the 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, the Women's One-Meter Dive, and the 400 Freestyle Relay. There will only be finals for the 1650 Freestyle and the 400 Freestyle Relay.
