Hosner Breaks School Record In Meet Against SMU And UH

DENTON (1/15/05)- The NT women's swimming and diving team hosted SMU and UH at the NT Student Recreation Center on Friday, Jan. 14. Sophomore Jaime Hosner brought much excitement to the evening when she broke the NT record in the 1000 freestyle.

Hosner swam a time of 10:39.39 finishing second to SMU swimmer Sara Nordenstam in the event. She currently holds the school record for the Mean Green in both the 1000 and 1650 freestyles.

Other highlights of the meet included senior All-Conference swimmer Bethany Pipe's second-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.12. Also, sophomore Gwen Rourke snagged a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with the time 1:07.51, less than two-tenths behind Houston's Szintia Szanto.

The Mean Green unfortunately fell short of a victory over the two visiting teams and now look to next week on Wednesday, Jan.19 when they take on the TCU Horned Frogs in Denton at the NT Student Recreation Center. This will be the last meet for the Mean Green in its regular season. The Sun Belt Championships are to follow and will be held Feb. 17-19 in Little Rock, AR.
