AUSTIN - The North Texas diving team completed day one of the UT Diving Invitational at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

Thursday was the three-meter board event for the field of 25 divers. Each diver attempted six dives, and the top-8 combined scores from the preliminary rounds advanced to the final round.

"We had a decent day of diving," diving coach Mark Murdock said. "The girls have now had their first experience with a high pressure competition and handled it well, but we have a few skills to work on as we head into winter training. We will move forward and get ready for the one-meter board tomorrow."

Samantha Scheck posted a score of 216.85, the highest of the day for a North Texas diver, but it wasn't enough to get her to the final round. Her fifth dive of the afternoon, a back 1 1/2 somersault 1 1/2 twist free, resulted in a score of 40.80, her best round of the afternoon.

Averie Ruiz, who won C-USA Diver of the Week on Nov. 1, finished behind Scheck with a score of 208. Her best dive was the back 1 1/2 somersault straight that earned her a score of 38.40.

Gabryella Silva (201.10), Jordan Ransom (198.30) and Allison Crites (197.85) rounded out the field for North Texas.
