DENTON - North Texas swimming and diving will host Texas A&M (1-0) and Houston (0-2) at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, for a Halloween-day matchup in the Pohl Recreation Center. The Mean Green (1-0) will then take on the visiting Rice Owls (2-0) at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the team’s first Conference USA meet of the year.

The weekend will be a competitive one for the Mean Green. Texas A&M was ranked seventh in last week’s poll by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, while Rice visits Denton as back-to-back C-USA champions.

Quick Hits:

• North Texas will don purple caps during Friday’s tri-meet in support of volleyball senior Camille Cherry, whose mother was killed in a car accident while traveling to a home match on Oct. 3.
• Krista Rossum took first in the 200 breaststroke and Mona Groteguth won the 200 backstroke in last year’s matchup with Houston. Rossum also picked up wins in the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM against Rice.
• Freshmen Barbara Wasilewska and Sydney Buckley won their first collegiate events against Incarnate Word last week. Wasilewska won the 1000-yard freestyle (10:32.12) and 500-yard freestyle (5:08.35) while Buckley took first in the 100-yard butterfly (57.84).
• North Texas accounts for two conference-best times in C-USA while Rice accounts for five. 
• Texas A&M swimmers Sarah Henry and Ashley McGregor combine for three Pohl Recreation Center records. Henry owns records in the 1000 freestyle (9:58.59) and 1650 freestyle (16:23.84), while McGregor set the record in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.83).
