Mean Green Swim and Dive Set To Compete In Little Rock Invitational

Oct. 14, 2016

DENTON – The North Texas swimming and diving team will return to action on Saturday when it competes in the Little Rock Invitational, hosted by Arkansas-Little Rock. The meet is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.

Five schools will compete in the Little Rock Invitational: North Texas, UALR, Incarnate Word, Delta State and Henderson State. North Texas is 17-0 all-time versus the other schools in the field of competition.

“I'm really looking forward to the Little Rock Invitational this weekend,” interim head coach Brittany Roth said. “I'm excited to see the whole team come together and compete together, rather than against one another such as we had in the previous settings of the pentathlon and Green-White meet. This meet will be an opportunity to get in great racing to see what we can do this early in the season.”

North Texas’ diving team will see its first official action of the year on Saturday. Samantha Scheck leads the talented diving squad this year after Jasmine Abercrombie completed her eligibility last season. Scheck posted the highest scores in the one and three meter diving events for the Mean Green last season.

“Our divers have really stepped forward this year and I've been impressed with how they've performed early on; it will be great to have them join the swimmers in competition,” added Roth.

The Mean Green competed in two meets last week, beginning on Friday with the North Texas Relays in Lewisville followed by their annual Green and White meet on Saturday. North Texas finished third at the North Texas Relays behind Houston and SMU.

North Texas performed well in the relays, securing victories in the 300-yard breaststroke relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. The Mean Green’s 300-yard breaststroke relay team, comprised of Sarah Vaisse, Claudia Kitching and Kathleen Rousset defeated Houston by nearly two seconds in the final heat.

North Texas will host its first official home meet on Friday, Oct. 28, at 4 p.m. against Rice. Following that meet, the Mean Green will challenge Houston on Saturday, Oct. 29, at noon.
