Swimming & Diving Sweeps C-USA Weekly Awards

Feb. 10, 2015

DENTON - Senior Krista Rossum and junior Jasmine Abercrombie led the way for the Mean Green in a weekend that included a down-to-the-wire dual against SMU and a pre-conference time trial event in Southlake. On Tuesday, Rossum and Abercrombie were rewarded for their efforts as they received the final Conference USA accolades of the regular season.

Rossum has been named C-USA’s Swimmer of the Week after winning the 200 individual medley in Friday’s dual with SMU (2:04.56) and notching a third-place time in the 100 breaststroke. The Canadian picked up an additional win in the 400 medley relay with the conference’s sixth-best time of the season (3:49.67). The award is just another notch on an impressive senior season for Rossum, who has wracked up more than 20 top-five finishes on the season, including a B time standard in the 400 IM. This is the third Swimmer of the Week award in Rossum’s career and her second in C-USA.

Abercrombie picks up conference Diver of the Week honors for the first time in her career. In Friday’s dual with SMU, Abercrombie won the three-meter dive with a 257.62 score and she followed that up with a second-place score in the one-meter. Abercrombie would go on to win the three-meter dive again the very next day, scoring a 239.60 against SMU and Oklahoma Baptist.

Rossum, Abercrombie and the rest of the Mean Green swimming and diving team will be in action for the final time of the season when the Conference USA Championships begin on Wednesday, Feb. 18, from Knoxville, Tennessee.
