Jan. 19, 2016

IRVING, Texas — With three-place finishes and a third-place finish in Saturday’s triple-dual meet victory over Arkansas-Little Rock, Southern Illinois and Ouachita Baptist, sophomore Sarah Vaisse was selected as Conference USA Co-Swimmer of the Week, her first career C-USA weekly award.

It was the second weekly award for the North Texas swimming and diving program this season. Senior Jasmine Abercrombie was named Conference Diver of the Week for Oct. 13, the first week of the season.

The Montesquieu-Lauragais, France, native won first place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.41) and 200-yard individual medley (2:07.39). She also swam the second leg of a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.42), the second-fastest time by a North Texas relay team in the event this season.

She also placed third overall in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.18. In all, she claimed nine dual meet first-place finishes and two second-place finishes in Saturday’s triple-dual meet against UALR, Southern Illinois and Ouachita Baptist.

For the season, Vaisse is tied with Rice’s Marie-Claire Schillinger for the fastest time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.73) in Conference USA this season. She also holds the third-fastest time in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.97) in the league this season.

With three first-place overall finishes this past Saturday, she now has six individual wins and has been a part of five relay wins on the season, and those 11 wins are spread across three different individual events and four different relay events.

The North Texas swimming and diving team will return to the pool on Friday, Jan. 29, for its Senior Day dual meet against TCU.
