HOUSTON, Texas -

The North Texas junior Mona Groteguth was the top qualifier in the 100 backstroke, earning an NCAA B cut. While classmate Krista Rossum broke her first record of the season, in the 400 IM, to start off day two finals at the Phill Hansel Invitational.

Groteguth won the 100 backstroke in 54.30 just shy of the school record set yesterday as she the lead off in the 400 medley. This was her first NCAA B cut of the season.

Rossum had three second-place finishes this evening, as a member of the 200 medley relay, 800 freestyle relay, and her record-breaking swim in the 400 IM. The time of 4:18.39 is an NCAA B cut time standard, her second of the meet and this season.

The Mean Green’s  Jana Burkard finished third in the 200 freestyle with a season-best of 1:50.21 and was also a member of the 800 free relay who placed second behind conference foe Rice.

After day two the Mean Green still sit in sixth place behind, Rice, University of Houston, Idaho, New Mexico and Tulane.
