DENTON - The green team came away with the win in the 11th annual Green & White meet, edging out the white squad and its seven individual victories 157-135.

The green squad was led by Krista Rossum and Barbara Wasilewska as each notched a pair of first place finishes. Rossum won the 50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly events but was held out of longer races due to illness. Wasilewska, the freshman from Poland, showed off her distance expertise as she claimed wins in the 1000 and 500 freestyle events. Junior Bianca Bocsa also notched a win for the green team in the 50 free.

Diving and relays proved to be pivotal in the meet's outcome. Junior Jasmine Abercrombie, representing the green team, took the top score in both the one- and three-meter diving categories, posting scores of 68.65 and 88.80, respectively. In addition, the green team sured up a win with victories in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Not to be outdone, the white team had a number of notable showings as well, as Isabelle Morris, Mona Groteguth, Marisa Pulaski and Caroline Culpepper all took top finishes.

"What I love about this meet is it's more of an opportunity to race in tough circumstances," coach Brendon Bray said. "The focus is on being competitive and supportive and in that way we really had a successful meet."

A handful of alumnae returned to the Pohl Recreation Center to race alongside the varsity athletes. At one point it appeared that the pool record for the 1000 freestyle had been broken before it was realized that a group of alumnae had actually performed the race as a relay.

The team now prepares for its next matchup on October 24, when it will travel to San Antonio to face the University of Incarnate Word in the first dual match of the season.
