Effective January 1, 2012, the state of Texas requires all new students (first-time-in-college, transfer and graduate students) aged twenty-nine (29) and under to provide evidence of receipt of an initial bacterial meningitis vaccination (meningococcal meningitis vaccine) or booster in the last five (5) years and at least ten (10) days prior to the first day of the semester in which the student initially enrolls. This new law also applies to any student returning to school after a break in enrollment for a fall or spring semester.
