North Texas vs. SMU

DALLAS -- SMU opened the fourth quarter with 10 straight points over North Texas to take control of Wednesday's game as they won 65-51 at Moody Coliseum.

The Mean Green (2-4, 0-0 C-USA) were led by sophomore Terriell Bradley who finished with 22 points, a new career-high for the Kansas transfer. North Texas led early in the game over SMU (5-2, 0-0 AAC) and tied it late in the third quarter before the Mustangs went on their run. 

"You have to end the fourth quarter a lot better, that's where you finish," said head coach Jalie Mitchell. "I don't think we were horrible prior to that but they executed much better."

The Mean Green held the Mustangs without a field goal for the final seven minutes of the third quarter. North Texas had tied it late in that stretch but six-straight points off free throws gave the Mustangs some momentum headed into the final frame.

Bradley was the only North Texas player to score in double figures and was the only player to make more than two free throws Wednesday night. 11 different Mean Green players saw playing time and eight recorded points.

North Texas' bench had been a major role in its two previous wins scoring 20 plus points in each game. Wednesday, the Mean Green bench scored a season low 13 points. It's the first time this season North Texas' bench didn't score 20 or more points.

The Mean Green's leading scorer off the bench was senior Candice Adams who finished with 9 points off three 3-pointers. On her second made 3-pointer, Adams passed 2016 graduate and former teammate Acheil Tac for 24th on the program's all-time scoring list. Adams has made at least one 3-pointer every game this season.

Defensively, North Texas forced 22 turnovers, one more than they committed. Throughout the game, Mean Green players were taking charges and playing aggressive defense. North Texas came away with seven steals in the game and held SMU to just 25 percent shooting in the third quarter. 

SMU's Alicia Froling gave the Mean Green fits, especially during the fourth quarter run. The 6-foot-3 forward entered Wednesday's game averaging 17 points a contest and finished with 23. She and her teammates executed a high-low offense well and Froling found her way to the free throw line often. She scored 11 of her points from the line.

North Texas is on the road again for its next game as they travel to Tulsa on Saturday. The game will start at 2 p.m.
