Bio: 

Janie Kirk Stidham holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design from the University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in Fashion and Textiles from Texas Woman’s University.  Before coming to the University of North Texas, Dr. Stidham spent 12 years working in the fashion industry.  She has worked in design and production for several Womenswear and childrenswear manufacturers in the Dallas area.  She remains active in her field through organizations such as the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) and the Surface Design Association.  Her interests are focused on creative apparel designs utilizing alternative materials and encourages designers to use organic materials as well as recycled and/or found objects would normally go to waste.  Dr. Stidham has also studied couture embroidery techniques at Lesage, Royal School of Needlework, and Alabama Chanin for which she incorporates into her own eclectic creative endeavors.
