Mental Sciences Institute

Mental and behavioral illness affects millions of Americans. Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide and a major contributor to the global burden of disease. In Tarrant County, nearly one in five adults reports suffering from poor mental health.

The Mental Sciences Institute offers an interactive venue for providers, educators and researchers to discover and apply innovative solutions that improve the quality of mental health in North Texas.

With more than 45 faculty members with expertise in treating psychiatric illness, the Mental Sciences Institute has the unique capability to design and conduct novel research projects that directly impact mental health in our community. Institute faculty members provide psychiatric and behavioral assessments to more than 30,000 patients a year.

Psychiatric and behavioral illnesses adversely impact virtually all other co-morbid diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease and chronic respiratory conditions. Our researchers will collaborate intraprofessionally with experts from a wide range of medical disciplines to improve the whole human experience by better understanding and fostering healthy brains.
