FIU Takes Down Mean Green 64-55

DENTON, Texas (12/20/09) - Despite Jasmine Godbolt's third double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds) of the season the Mean Green women's basketball team saw a second half lead slip away and dropped their first conference game of the season 64-55 to FIU at The Super Pit Sunday afternoon.

The Mean Green is now 4-7 all-time against the Golden Panthers.

North Texas (4-8, 1-1) hit a rough stretch in the second half in which they scored only five points over an 11-minute period. FIU (5-5, 1-1) took advantage by going on a 22-3 run that the Mean Green could not recover from.

For the game North Texas shot only 28 percent (18-of-64) from the field and were outscored in the paint 38-22.

Along with Godbolt, senior Brittney James scored in double-figures with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the floor.

Four different FIU players scored in double-figures, including a team-high 16 points from Rakia Rodgers. FIU shot 46 percent for the game and held a big advantage in bench points (22-2).

Both teams played a back and forth first half in which there was 10 lead changes. North Texas built a four point lead with four minutes left in the first half but FIU closed strong by going on a 6-0 run over the last three minutes.

Godbolt (13 points) and James (12 points) accounted for all but seven points for the Mean Green in the first half and North Texas went into the locker room trailing 34-32. North Texas managed to hang around in the first 20 minutes despite shooting only 34 percent from the field.

FIU was led by Monika Bosilj, who scored 11 points in the first half on 5-of-11 shooting from the field.

North Texas will hit the hardwood again on Monday, December 28 when they travel to Columbia, Missouri to take on the University of Missouri at 6:30 p.m.
