Mean Green Runs Past New Orleans To Pick Up 68-52 Win

NEW ORLEANS, La. (12/16/06) Three players scored in double figures and the North Texas (3-6, 1-0) women’s basketball snapped its three-game losing streak with a 68-52 win over New Orleans (5-6, 0-2) at the Human Performance Center.

Sophomore Amber Jackson tied her career-high with 15 points as the Mean Green won its conference opener for the third straight season.

“We really played a lot more consistent tonight and I was pleased with our energy,” said North Texas head coach Tina Slinker. “We had some breakdowns in the second half that let them back into the game but we had the answers when we had to have them”.

After falling behind 4-1 one-minute into the game, the Mean Green went on a 15-0 run over the next eight minutes to take a 16-4 lead. New Orleans cut the margin to 23-16 with 7:27 left in the first half, but a 15-4 run by the Mean Green to end the half made it 38-20 at the break.

The North Texas lead swelled to 54-27 with 13:12 left in the game, but New Orleans had one final run left.

A 19-2 run by the Privateers cut the North Texas lead to 56-47 with 3:58 to play. 3-pointers by Tricia Lee and Brittney James all but ended any hope of a New Orleans comeback in the final minutes.

North Texas continues its road swing with a visit to Texas A&M on Monday night at 7 p.m.
