North Texas Rally Falls Short At MSU

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri - The North Texas women's basketball team pushed the Missouri Valley Conference favorite to the brink, but Missouri State (5-3) was able to hang on and pick up a 78-67 win at the John Q. Hammons Arena.

Trailing by as many as 20 points in the second half, North Texas(7-4) put on a furious rally led by Brittney Hudson and Jasmine Godbolt to make it a three point game at 66-63 with 3:45 left.

Missouri State though got eight straight points from Casey Garrison, who scored a game-high 29 points, to put the game away for the Bears.

Down 47-27 early in the second half, North Texas began to chip away at the lead. Godbolt, who notched her 20th career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, scored 11 of her points in the second half and fueled the Mean Green rally.

North Texas sliced the Missouri State lead down to 10 at 59-49 with 9:18 remaining. The Mean Green kept rally going as they used a 14-7 run to make it 66-63 with under four minutes left in the game.

Garrison though scored eight of the final 10 points for Missouri State late in the game as they hung on for the win.

Missouri State raced out to an early lead on the Mean Green as they led 10--0 with 15:25 left in the first half. Trailing 25-11, North Texas battled their way back with an 8-0 run to cut the Bears lead to six points at 25-19 with 7:43 left in the first half.

The Mean Green made it a five-point game at 27-22 with 7:14 left, but Missouri State used a 16-5 run to end the half and push their led to 43-27 at the break.  Hudson ended the game with 17 points for North Texas.

North Texas returns to action on December 17 as they travel to Austin to face the Texas Longhorns.
