Jackson Scores 18 In a Mean Green Loss To Marshall

DENTON (12/4/07) Junior Amber Jackson scored 18 points, but the North Texas women’s basketball team fell to Marshall, 82-70, on Tuesday night at the Super Pit.

 

The Mean Green (5-5) loses its third straight game and falls to 0-1 in the series with Marshall.

 

For the second straight game, North Texas dug itself in a hole in the first half and was unable to catch up to the Thundering Herd in the second period. Jackson posted her ninth game in double figures with 18 points. Jo Hall and Tricia Lee scored 14 and 10 points, respectively. Lee scored eight of her 10 points in the second half.

 

After being down 14 at the half, 44-30, North Texas cut the Marshall lead to single digits twice in the second half. Erica Howard hit a layup to cut the lead to nine, 56-47, at 10:45, and then Brittney James sliced it to nine again, 58-49, with a score a minute later. Marshall responded with a 13-4 run to extend the lead back to double-digits. North Texas outscored Marshall in the second half, 40-38.

 

Marshall used an 11-2 run to get away from the Mean Green, 24-14, at 10:41 in the first half.  Jackson scored eight of NT’s first 12 points and 12 of the Mean Green’s 30 half-time tallies.

 

Marshall’s Kizzy Hart led all scorers with 23 points.

 

Marshall was 5-for-11 from three-point range, while North Texas was 3-for-14 from behind the arc. All of NT’s three-pointers came late in the second half. Marshall also picked up 19 points from the free-point line.

 

North Texas returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 8 when it plays Valparaiso on the road at 1:35 pm.
