North Texas Faces No. 10 Oklahoma Tonight

DENTON, Tex. (11/27/07) The North Texas women’s basketball team puts its five-game winning streak on the line tonight against one of the nation’s best teams when they travel to face No. 10 Oklahoma. North Texas has never won in Norman against the Sooners and is after the school’s first win over a ranked team.

North Texas has matched its best start at 5-2 since the 2005-06 season when it won 19 games. It marks the ninth time in school history that North Texas has started the season out at 5-2 or better.

During those nine seasons the Mean Green has averaged 17 wins a year. The Mean Green is also riding a five-game winning streak for the ninth time under head coach Tina Slinker and for the first time since the 2005-06 season.

Through the first seven games forward Amber Jackson has been on a torrid clip from the floor. She is shooting a team-high 54 percent from the floor and is on pace to have the best shooting season for Mean Green player in more than a decade.

While there is still a lot of basketball left to be played, her percentage of 54.2 would rank second all-time in a single season at North Texas. Only Freda Deckard’s percentage of 67.7 set in the 1994-95 season is better.

The Sooners have won two straight games after dropping their first two of the year.

Game time tonight is at 7 p.m. from the Lloyd Noble Center.
