Lady Eagles Cruise Past UTA, 85-58

DENTON, Tex, (11/27/01)  North Texas jumped out to a 20-4 lead and didn’t look back as the Lady Eagles improved to 4-2 on the season, defeating Texas-Arlington 85-58 at the Super Pit Tuesday night.

North Texas shot 59 percent from the field in the first half, connecting on its first six attempts and 12 of its first 15 attempts en route to a 47-24 halftime lead.  Conversely, Texas-Arlington made only four of its first 18 attempts and shot only 24 percent from the field in the first half.

“Overall, I’m pleased with our performance,” said head coach Tina Slinker.  “Sometimes it is hard for a team to maintain its intensity when it gets out to a big lead like we did.”

The Lady Eagles had five players in double figures for the game, led by Karen Lee with 15.  Nicole Thomas had 14 points, including 12 in the first half while Kim Blanton had 11 and Shannan Stephenson and Jalie Mitchell each added 10.  Texas-Arlington (1-4) was led by Krystal Buchanan with 10 points.

Led by Jalie Mitchell with nine rebounds, North Texas outrebounded Texas-Arlington 43-36.  The Lady Eagles will be in action next at Texas Tech Sunday, Dec. 2.
