James Named To Third-Team, NT Picked Fourth

DENTON, Tex. - Senior guard Brittney James was named to the preseason All-Sun Belt Conference third-team and North Texas was picked to finish in a tie for fourth place in the West Division in the preseason coaches poll.

James is coming off her most production season last year as she scored 319 points and enters this season needing only 71 points to reach the 1,000 point plateau for her career. James would become on the 12th player in school history to reach 1,000 points.

North Texas was picked in a tie for fourth with New Orleans in the West Division while UALR was the unanimous favorite to win the West. Following UALR was Denver, Arkansas State, North Texas and New Orleans, ULM, and Louisiana-Lafayette.

Middle Tennessee was the favorite on the East Division side, picking up 11.5 first place votes while Western Kentucky received one first place vote and Florida Atlantic received half a first-place vote. WKU was picked to finish second with South Alabama third, FAU fourth, FIU fifth, and Troy sixth.

Alysha Clark of Middle Tennessee was named the Preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year.

In addition to the preseason poll and all-conference teams, the Sun Belt also announced the TV package for the upcoming women's basketball season. The new Sun Belt Network will air nine conference games and North Texas is scheduled for two games. February 13 at home against Denver and February 21 at home against UALR is when the Mean Green will appear on the SBC Network.

North Texas begins the exhibition season on November 5 against TWU and the regular season on November 14 at Stephen F. Austin.
