DENTON (8/26/04)- The University of North Texas has announced its 2004-05 women’s basketball schedule which is once again filled with some of the best teams in women’s college basketball. The Mean Green will face eight teams that made post-season appearances, including five teams that advanced to the NCAA tournament.

"Our 2004-2005 schedule provides us with many challenges that can only help to prepare us for our tough conference season," said North Texas head coach Tina Slinker. "With top opponents as Texas, LSU, Texas A&M, and Houston we will be tested right away. I am extremely excited about the opportunity to have the University of Texas come to the Super Pit on December 16th. Hopefully, a Final Four team can bring much excitement to our University. Our non-conference schedule should prepare us for a very competitve Sun Belt Conference season".

North Texas has 12 home games on the schedule and for the first time in school history will be hosting the 2005 Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Mean Green has never hosted a women’s conference tournament.

Highlighting the non-conference schedule is a home game with the Texas Longhorns on December 16 at the Super Pit. It will mark the first time that Texas has played the Mean Green at the Super Pit. North Texas will have a road game against Final Four participant LSU. The non-conference schedule features eight games against teams from Texas. North Texas will visit metroplex rival SMU while UTA comes to the Super Pit.

Sun Belt Conference play begins with a three game homestand against New Mexico State, Denver, and Florida International. Defending conference champion Middle Tennessee will visit the Super Pit on February 12. North Texas closes out the conference season with six of their final eight games on the road.

Heading into this season North Texas will enjoy a wealth of experience as the Mean Green has six upperclassmen on the roster this season, nine returning letterwinners, three returning starters, and three new freshman recruits to add to the mix.
