DENTON, Texas - North Texas women's basketball head coach Karen Aston has made her first signings as the Mean Green has inked Atavia Blake and Sara Stanley to Letters of Intent on Tuesday. Blake is a forward from Jefferson High School in Tampa, Fla. and Stanley spent last season at McLennan Community College.

"I am very pleased to bring these two young women into the Mean Green family," said Aston. "Obviously, this has been fast and furious for our staff since coming on board here at North Texas and I would like to commend them for their diligence in recruiting these two players."

Blake is a 5-11 forward from Jefferson High School in Tampa, Fla. She averaged 10.1 points her senior season, helping the Dragons to a 27-2 record and reach the Florida Regional Semifinals in 2011 and the Florida 4A Semifinal in 2010.

"I believe that Atavia will be able to add the depth in the paint that we need," said Aston. "She can score on the block and also brings a versatile game to the Mean Green."

Blake was a second team All-Division pick in 2011, and was named Honorable Mention All-Tampa Bay by both Bright House Sports Network and the Tampa Tribune. Blake played in the UNCF All-Star Game following her senior season, a game that featured some of the top seniors from Tampa Bay.

Stanley is a junior college transfer from McLennan Community College, where she was a two-time second-team All-Conference selection. She averaged 14.2 points and 7.7 rebounds as a freshman at McLennan, before battling injuries her sophomore year to average 8.9 points and a team-leading 8.2 rebounds.

"Sara will bring a presence on the low block," said Aston. "She battled some injuries her two years at McLennan, but all I heard about her was how competitive she was and we have to start with that as we bring players into our system."

Stanley was named District 8-5A Most Valuable Player her senior year at Wylie High School, as she averaged a double-double with 10.9 rebounds and a league-leading 16.6 points. She was an All-State selection by the Texas Girls' Coaches Association from Wylie High School.
