Women's Basketball Falls To Denver

DENTON, Texas (2/26/11) - Brianna Culberson scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Denver women's basketball team to a 74-50 win against North Texas on Saturday night at the Super Pit.

North Texas falls to 5-23 and 2-13 in the conference, while Denver improves to 19-10 and 11-5 in the Sun Belt. The Pioneers extend their series lead against the Mean Green to 14-8.

North Texas held an early lead, but Denver used a big run at the start of the second half to take control of the game. The Pioneers shot 56 percent from the field and held the Mean Green to 35 percent shooting.

Ash'Lynne Evans led the Mean Green in scoring with 12 points. Jasmine Godbolt and Kasondra Foreman joined Evans in double-figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.  

The Mean Green jumped out to a 12-5 lead before Denver woke up with an 11-10 run. Morgan Shell hit a layup to put the Pioneers ahead, 16-12. North Texas managed only 10 more points in the first half, as Denver took a 35-20 lead at the intermission.

Denver opened the second half on a 16-4 run, taking a 51-26 lead at 12:38. Desiree Nelson hit the Mean Green's first three-pointer at 12:01 in the second half to cut the lead to 53-31. North Texas hit only two three-pointers in the game.
