Mean Green Knocks Off Ragin Cajuns 90-67 On Senior Night

DENTON, Texas (2/24/10) - Jasmine Godbolt recorded her school record eighth double-double (16 points, 12 rebounds) of the season and North Texas won its first game at the Super Pit since Jan. 20 by defeating the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns 90-67 Wednesday evening.

The 23-point margin of victory was the Mean Green's biggest of the season and the fewest points allowed since the Jan. 20 victory over South Alabama (78-66).

Joining Godbolt in double-figures was Denetra Kellum (20 points), Brittney James (14 points) and Raquel Cuffie (12 points). Kellum also tied a season-high with 12 rebounds en route to her first career double-double.

For seniors James and Torrian Timms it was their final home game of their career and they were honored on the court prior to tipoff with a ceremony.

The story of Wednesday night was the rebounding advantage where the Mean Green held a 58-33 advantage and also outscored Louisiana-Lafayette 27-17 points off the bench.

The start of the second half saw the Mean Green come out on fire, expanding their lead to 14 with a 10-0 run in the first four minutes and North Texas would never look back, outscoring Lafayette 25-11 in the first 10 minutes.

North Texas (8-20, 5-12) came on strong in the first half, both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, and took a 40-36 lead into halftime. Eight members of the Mean Green contributed to the scoring column in the game's first 20 minutes, led by nine points from Kellum.

Louisiana-Lafayette (9-20, 4-13) was led in scoring by Alexis Green, who scored a team and game-high 24 points, but only six of those came in the all-important second half.

Much of the Mean Green's offensive success stemmed from their 27-18 rebounds advantage and 16-5 edge in points off the bench. North Texas was able to open up an 11-point advantage, their biggest of the half, with just over a minute remaining but Green helped close the gap with a three-pointer just before the buzzer. Green led all scorers during the first half with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field.

North Texas will be back in action this Saturday when they travel to Monroe, LA to take on the Warhawks. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
