Wali Scores Career High In Victory

DENTON (2/22/07) Senior DiDi Wali posted a career-high 15 points in her last home game to lead the North Texas women’s basketball team to a 82-66 victory against Arkansas State at the Super Pit.

 

The Mean Green (9-18, 6-11) has won its second straight game and secured its first victory against the Indians in the last seven meetings. The Indians lead the series 11-7.

 

Amber Jackson led the Mean Green with 16 points and eight rebounds. Eight of her 16 points came from the free-throw line. Wali and Tricia Lee followed with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Sanetra Jackson came off the bench to score 13 points, including 10 in the first half in 14 minutes of action.

 

Talicia Sanders scored NT’s first five points and then led her team on a 9-0 run to go ahead, 11-4. North Texas put the Indians on their heels right from the start, forcing ASU to foul.

 

Each team hit 12 field goals in the first period but the difference was in the free throws. The Mean Green went to line 18 times and made 14 shots from the charity stripe. Wali and Sanders led the way with four made free throws.

 

For the game, the Mean Green went to the line a season-high 35 times and made a season-best 27 free thows.

 

Adrienne Davis cut the Mean Green’s lead to four points, 20-16, with a jumper at the 10-minute mark. NT responded with a 15-2 run, including six points from Sanetra Jackson. Lee capped the run with one of her three three-pointers in the game. Davis led all scorers with a 28 points.

 

The Mean Green extended its 13-point halftime lead to as many as 20 points. Lee hit a free-throw at 12:24 to give NT a 58-38 lead.

 

Sanetra Jackson hit a three-pointer and then NT made seven free throws to seal the win.

 

North Texas rounds out the regular season with a road game against Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 pm.
