Pink Zone Night At North Texas Set For Wednesday

DENTON, Texas (2/16/09) It’s a special evening planned on Wednesday night as the North Texas women’s basketball team will host ULM in its annual WBCA Pink Zone night.  In their efforts to raise awareness for breast cancer both teams will be warming up in pink t-shirts and shoelaces.

There will also be two autographed commemorative basketballs raffled off and donations will be accepted to the Kay Yow Foundation. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game which gets underway at 7 p.m. at the Super Pit.

The Solis Women’s Health Center will at the game and handing out information regarding breast cancer awareness. The Zeta Tau Alpha is selling t-shirt for the Susan G. Komen Foundation and will be available for purchase at the game Wednesday night.

The WBCA Pink Zone initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

The WBCA began the WBCA Pink Zone, formerly known as "Think Pink", in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year a success.

In 2008, over 1,200 teams and organizations participated, reaching over 830,000 fans and raising over $930,000 for breast cancer awareness and research.
