Mean Green Held Off By South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. (1/28/07) - Try as they did, the North Texas women’s basketball team couldn’t get over hump in a 72-57 loss to South Alabama at the Mitchell Center. The Mean Green (5-14, 2-7), down by double figures for most of the game, rallied on three separate occasions but couldn’t get past the Jaguars. The loss is the seventh in the last eight games for North Texas

“It was disappointing because we just didn’t get any consistency,” said North Texas head coach Tina Slinker. “We played well at times and at other times we let them get some easy buckets. It’s hard to play from behind but we kept battling out there and I was pleased with our effort”

Tricia Lee scored the initial points of the game to make it 3-0, but after that South Alabama (10-11, 4-7) took the lead and never relinquished it for the remainder of the game. After a 15-0 run by the Jaguars to make it 15-3, the Mean Green responded for the first time.

Down by eight at the break, the Mean Green cut the Jaguar lead to 37-34 four minutes into the second half.
