MIAMI, Fla. (1/21/09) - The North Texas women's basketball team is in the Sunshine State looking to get back to its winning ways as they face Florida International tonight at U.S. Century Bank Arena. The Mean Green is coming off a heartbreaking one-point loss to Florida Atlantic on Saturday night. Tip-off tonight is at 5 p.m. and the game can be heard on 88.1 FM KNTU.  

North Texas and Florida International will meet for the 10th time in series history. The Golden Panthers led the series with North Texas 6-3. North Texas is looking to end a three-game losing streak to the Golden Panthers. The Mean Green hasn’t won against FIU since the 2005 season.

North Texas is just 1-3 in Miami against FIU with its only win being a 55-53 win in 2004. The two teams did meet in 2002 for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament title in New Orleans as FIU won 66-49.

Amber Jackson picked up her 10th double-double of the season against the Denver Pioneers and topped the 20-point mark against Florida Atlantic for the seventh time this season. Jackson has scored 20-point in three of the last four games, her best stretch of the season and has the most 20-point games by a Mean Green player since Jalie Mitchell had 15 in the 2001-02 season.

Jackson is shooting right at 50 percent for the season and is going after her second straight year of shooting 50 percent or better from the floor. Only two players in school history have ever shot 50 percent or better in school history in back-to-back seasons, Freda Deckard and Clara Campbell.

Deckard last did it in the 1994-95 and 95-96 seasons. Campbell had her back-to-back seasons in 1985-86 and 86-87. Jackson shot exactly 50 percent from the floor last season.

Torrian Timms had her second best rebounding game against the Owls. She grabbed nine rebounds and had five offensive boards. Amber Jackson played all 40 minutes of the game against Florida Atlantic, the second time this season and the third time in her career she has played all 40 minutes of a game.

North Texas continues to take care of business at the free throw line, hitting 69.9 percent of their shots. That is on pace to be the third best percentage in history and the best season at the line since 2001-02.
