The Mean Green is also on its first five-game conference winning streak since the 2001-02 crew that took five straight. North Texas created seperation between itself and Arkansas State in the West division with the victory over FIU. Florida Atlantic has won four of its last six and is 9-7 on the year following a win over Troy in Boca Raton.

The Series
North Texas meets Florida Atlantic for the first time since a tight contest last March in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, a one-point victory for the Owls. FAU also drives the overall series with a 5-2 lead. The Owls have taken the last five in a row against the Mean Green after North Texas began the series with a 2-0 start.

Happy New Year
The Mean Green is 5-0 in 2013. The five wins is already the most wins for the program in the month of January since 2005-06. The school record for most wins in the month is seven set back in 1985-86, the only NCAA Tournament team in in program history.

Sun Belt Spectacle
After notching only one win in non-conference play, the Mean Green has started off 6-2 in Sun Belt action. This is tied for the best start through eight games for the Mean Green in conference play since joining the SBC in 2000. The 01-02 and 04-05 teams also share first place with victories in six of their first eight league games. Those two teams combined to finish SBC play a combined 21-9.

Showing Its Better Half
Until the FIU game, North Texas had not won a game all season in which it trailed going into the second half. It was the program's first win after being down at the end of the first half since 11/12/11 against SMU.

Clean Streak
North Texas is looking for its first 6-game winning streak since the 2000-01 crew. Furthermore, if the Mean Green can beat Florida Atlantic, it would be only the third six-game streak in the program's history (1998-99, 1999-00, 2000-01). The longest winning streak in school history is eight games. The 2000-01 unit started off the season on an eight-game win streak.
