Hudson's Buzzer Beater Puts NT In First Place

MONROE, La. - The showdown for the top spot in the West Division of the Sun Belt Conference turned into a buzzer beater as Brittney Hudson scored as time expired and North Texas knocked off ULM 56-54.

With the game tied at 54-54, North Texas had the ball with 7.5 seconds to play in the game. Hudson picked up a loose ball in backcourt and raced it ahead to hit the game winning basket at the buzzer.

The win puts North Texas (11-8, 4-2) alone in first place of the Sun Belt Conference West Division by a half-game.

 North Texas led by as many as 18 points in the second half as Jasmine Godbolt tied her season-high with 20 points and her basket to begin the second half put the Mean Green ahead 32-14.  North Texas led 46-29 midway through the second half when ULM began their comeback.

ULM (5-14, 3-3) went on a 13-0 run to make it a four-point game at 46-42 with 5:01 left in the game. The Mean Green pushed the lead back to eight points at 52-44 on two free throws by Laura McCoy and a basket by Tamara Torru.

ULM came back again to make it a one-point game at 52-51 with 20 seconds left. Torru then made two free throws with 16 seconds left and put the Mean Green up by three points at 54-51.

The Warhawks tied the game on a 3-pointer with 7.5 seconds remaining from freshman Taylor Miracle, before the final second heroics by Hudson.

North Texas broke the game open early, as the Mean Green used a 10-0 run to take a 19-8 with 7:54 left in the first half. ULM didn't have an answer for Godbolt inside, as she scored 14 points in the first half and North Texas outscored the Warhawks 22-6 in the paint in the first half to take a lead 30-14 at the half. The Mean Green held ULM to 15.6 percent shooting in the first half.

North Texas returns to action on Saturday, January 21 as they host the Denver Pioneers at 5 p.m.
