North Texas' Tina Slinker Wins 150th Career Game

DENTON (1/5/02) - North Texas head women's basketball coach Tina Slinker captured her 150th career victory with an 82-66 win over Arkansas State in a Sun Belt Conference game Saturday night.  The Lady Eagles improved to 5-0 at home and 9-5 overall with the win.

"I owe a lot to this senior class," Slinker said.  "A lot of the credit for this accomplishment has to go to my staff and the people on the floor tonight."

North Texas led the entire game, taking a 34-27 halftime advantage and leading by as many as 17 in the second half.  The Lady Eagles forced Arkansas State into a season-high 30 turnovers while committing only 16 themselves.  North Texas shot 77 percent from the free throw line, connecting on 27 of its 35 attempts.

Senior forward's Shannan Stephenson and Jalie Mitchell led the way for the Lady Eagles with 24 and 21 points respectively.  Stephenson's performance tied a career high.

North Texas will play at Florida International Jan. 9 before returning home to host Denver Jan. 17.
