Women's Hoops Selected To Finish 12th In C-USA Poll

Head Coach Mike Petersen Is Entering His Second Year

Oct. 7, 2013

IRVING, Texas - North Texas is picked to finish 12th out of 16 teams in the Conference USA preseason women's basketball poll.

"I voted us first, and I don't know why you would go into any season with any team and not have your aspirations be to finish at the top of your league," head coach Mike Petersen said. "Obviously, I disagree with the rest of the folks who voted on this poll."

North Texas was one of four teams to receive a first place vote and received 92 total points, six short of storied Louisiana Tech.

"So we are going to go play the games in January and February, and that will help us figure out who was closer to being right," coach Petersen concluded.

Fellow Sun Belt Conference transfers Middle Tennessee and FIU finished first (eight 1st place votes) and fifth, respectively, while Florida Atlantic came in 14th.

C-USA women's basketball has seen great success in its history including 160 postseason appearances (109 NCAA/51 WNIT), 15 Final Four teams and four national champions.

The rest of the results of the preseason poll and the preseason all-conference team can be seen on the Conference USA website.

You can catch North Texas women's hoops on Nov. 9 in its season opener in The Super Pit at 7:30 p.m. against UMKC. The Mean Green will follow that with a home date against the SEC's Texas A&M on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.

League play will begin on Jan. 8 with a trip to Murfreesboro, Tenn., against preseason favorite and familiar foe, Middle Tennessee.
