DENTON — North Texas head women’s basketball coach Jalie Mitchell announced the hiring of Becca Neu on Friday. Neu will take over as the Mean Green’s director of basketball operations after serving as a graduate assistant with the team in 2015-16.

In her new role, Neu will play a hand in travel, recruiting and alumni communications, video presentations, North Texas camps, campus and social media marketing efforts, and oversight of the team’s managers while handling other organizational duties related to the program.

“I came to North Texas to finish my graduate degree because I wanted to be a part of Coach Mitchell’s first year as a head coach,” Neu said. “I saw the impact she had on her players as an assistant at Texas and knew she would build a very successful program one day.”

She continued, “This team was truly invested in our season last year and we accomplished so much together. At the end of the year, I felt like there was so much more that I had to offer North Texas. That’s why I am honored for this opportunity to stay and be an integral part of the staff.”

Neu joins the Mean Green coaching team after most recently serving as a graduate assistant for the program this past season. Throughout the year, she oversaw the coordination of NT's travel plans and played a large role in the program's external and recruit-based marketing efforts.

She made her way to North Texas from the University of Texas at Austin, where she served as a student manager for three seasons. At UT, Neu handled mailouts for recruits, managed the team's travel protocol, assisted with all camps and oversaw the team's undergraduate managers. The Longhorns improved in each of the three seasons that Neu was on staff, with the team earning a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2014-15. 

“I have worked with Becca for the last four years,” Mitchell said. “Based on our previous work history at Texas, I knew she would be the perfect fit for our program. There is a great amount of loyalty, trust and respect there that is hard to ignore. She is an incredibly talented and creative young mind who always finds a way to set herself apart from the rest. She is extremely organized, hard-working and just simply gets the job done. I am proud to promote her from graduate assistant to director of basketball operations.”

Neu earned her bachelor's degree in advertising from UT-Austin in 2014. She is currently set to graduate with a master's degree in sports management from UNT in December 2016.
