Mitchell was named head coach of the North Texas women's basketball team on April 9, 2015. Between moving back to Denton, getting to know the team and beginning to operate the Mean Green program, Mitchell will be very busy early on in her tenure. On Monday, Jalie Mitchell announced that 5-9 guard Tyara Warren will transfer to North Texas from West Virginia; Warren is the fourth transfer from a Power 5 school to the Mean Green in the last three weeks. The Plano native will sit out the 2015-16 season in accordance with NCAA regulations.

"There have been plenty of times that I've watched Tyara play and felt she was the hardest-working player on the court," Mitchell said. "She sets an impressive tone on the defensive end that her teammates can't help but follow. Tyara takes great pride in getting stops, which is the way to her new head coach's heart."

After graduating from Plano West High School last year, Warren went to Morgantown and appeared in 18 games for the Mountaineers. She scored a career-high 10 points twice, at Marshall and at Oklahoma. Against the Sooners on January 4, Warren played a career-high 24 minutes and added a career-high four steals. She went 10-25 (40-percent) on the season from beyond the three-point line, which ranked third on the team.

"Offensively, Tyara is a triple-threat; she can get to the rim, hit the mid-range jumper and knock down the three," Mitchell continued. "She's a proven winner who fits my description of what a guard should be. Tyara is another player who was taught under a high school legend and her experiences will prove essential to the growth of our program."

Coming out of high school, where she was coached by Don Patterson, Warren earned a 90 overall scouting grade by ESPN.com and was ranked No. 25 nationally at her position. In her junior season, she averaged 12.8 points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals per game, leading Plano West to a 36-4 overall record and a trip to the 2013 regional semifinals. The Wolves were district champions three years in a row with Warren, and reached No. 32 in the national rankings during her junior season.
