#First44 Day 3: Tweeting, Thanking the Masses

April 12, 2015

Mitchell was named head coach of the North Texas women's basketball team on April 9, 2015. Between moving back to Denton, getting to know the team and beginning to operate the Mean Green program, Mitchell will be very busy early on in her tenure. We want to give fans an in-depth look at her #First44 days on the job in the form of a 44-part series that will run from April 10-May 23.

Whether it be kicking your feet up and watching the Masters, or spending quality time with family, Sundays are usually a good day of the week to just take a break and relax. Jalie Mitchell did some of that, but also took the time to respond to many of those who sent her welcome messages on Twitter when she was hired as North Texas head coach last week.

Beginning with the first tweet at 6:48 p.m. and ending with the last one at 10:35 p.m., Mitchell sent out 82 responses and retweeted 14 others from fans, colleagues, staff and players. Anyone who is a regular on social media knows how much it means for someone to reciprocate your message and give a personalized response, and Mitchell realizes that.

"My phone and social media accounts have been full of congratulatory messages from people all over the world; I feel so loved and supported in my new role," she said. "I'm extremely thankful that so many people took time out of their schedules to wish me the best and I wanted to return the favor... What more could a new head coach ask for?"

You can follow Mitchell on Twitter @NT_CoachJ and the North Texas women's basketball team @MeanGreenWBB for updates on the team throughout the offseason. She has been one of the most active basketball coaches in the country on social media and plans to keep up with it as much as she can as time goes on.
