Mean Green Women Look To Send Seniors Out On High Note
Five Seniors To Be Recognized In Home Finale
Feb. 26, 2016
DENTON — The North Texas women’s basketball team will play its last home game of the season this weekend when Southern Miss travels to Denton. In a matinee matchup, the Mean Green will honor each of the team’s seniors prior to Saturday’s 2 p.m. tipoff from the Super Pit.
In what has been a season of improvement, the Mean Green’s growth from a five-win season last year has been due in no small part to the contributions of the team’s veterans.
“They’ve bought in and given it their all in their time here,” head coach Jalie Mitchell said of her seniors ahead of the weekend contest. “I think they’ve helped to lay the foundation for what we hope to do here in the years to come.”
Acheil Tac has been one of the biggest points of consistency for the Mean Green this season. She leads the team with nine double-doubles on the year, and just last week she set a new career high with 25 points at Florida Atlantic. But the Garland native’s scoring prowess is far from her only contribution as she has become one of the more efficient players in program history. Her 52.4 career field goal percentage is currently third all-time, and Tac is just nine rebounds away from making her way into the program’s top-10 list.
Kasiney Williams and Teadra Jones are a pair of players that came to North Texas after successful careers at the junior college level, and each one has contributed to the team’s toughness throughout the season. Now in their second year with the Mean Green, both Williams and Jones continue to show individual improvement while providing balance to the team’s lineup.
Kiara Davis and Kelby Jones will also be honored during Saturday’s senior day recognition. Davis played in 20 games during a Mean Green career that was hampered by injuries, while Jones spent four years with the team as director of managerial operations.
With one last game to play from the Super Pit floor, NT’s senior group will look for one more win from their home court and momentum as the regular season comes to a close.
