Career Game by Jones Not Enough for Mean Green Win

It was once again a struggle for North Texas to get the ball through the hoop. The visitors shot 30-percent for the contest, including an 0-14 start before senior forward Joh'Vonna Darrington hit a 15-footer to put the Mean Green on the board and bring the game within 6-2.
With 5:40 remaining in the first half, North Texas found itself down 21-5 when head coach Mike Petersen put in five subs in an effort to spark the offense. And spark they did, as forward Megan Womack led the way with four huge points at the end of the half. The freshman from Stroud, Oklahoma, finished a put-back as time expired to bring the halftime score to 28-15.
The Mean Green then started out the second half on a 5-0 run to bring the San Francisco lead within eight, but that was the closest it got. The Dons were able to utilize swift ball movement throughout the game, notching 14 assists on 20 made baskets. San Francisco also earned 10 more foul shots than North Texas, going 17-20 from the line compared to 6-10 for the Mean Green.
Junior forward Taylor Proctor led the Dons with 15 points on 6-10 shooting, eight rebounds and tying a career-high with six assists. Sophomore guard Rachel Howard added 12 points for the home team on 5-10 shooting.
On the North Texas side, junior Teadra Jones led the team with 12 points on 5-11 shooting, including 2-5 from three-point range. It was her second game in double-digits this season and a new career-high mark for the transfer from Pensacola State College. Senior guard BreAnna Dawkins and Darrington added nine points apiece for the Mean Green.

The Mean Green got down by as many as 24 points in the second half, before ultimately dropping the contest by a score of 60-42.

Next up for North Texas
- After completing its first road trip of the season with a 1-1 record, the Mean Green heads home for a Sunday afternoon game against UT Arlington on December 21 at the Super Pit. That game will tip off at approximately 3:30 p.m., 30 minutes after after the men's team finishes up against Creighton.
- San Francisco pulled off a wire-to-wire victory, leading for a total of 39:16 in the game. It was the first such game for North Texas so far this season.
- Dawkins has now scored nine or more points in five consecutive games.
- The nine points by Darrington were more than she had scored in all five of her previous games combined (eight).
- The four points by Womack were the first of her collegiate career. In addition, her three rebounds and 15 minutes played were new career-highs.
