HOUSTON – North Texas women’s hoops moved to 6-8 in C-USA play after smashing Rice, 66-52, in a game it controlled from start to finish.

With the win, the Mean Green stays in control of its bye destiny with two games left to play before the C-USA tournament begins in El Paso, Texas, on March 11.

“Offensively, I thought we were pretty efficient,” head coach Mike Petersen said. “We valued the ball and only had 10 turnovers in the game.”

The Mean Green (12-15) flew out of the gates against the slumping Owls, quickly building an 8-0 lead that it would not relinquish.

“The best part was when they attempted to mount a comeback in the second half, we played hard and attacked the rim,” coach Petersen continued.

North Texas led by as many as 23 during the second half and shot 44.1 percent from the floor.

“I simply thought we played really well, it was a complete game effort on both ends of the court,” coach Petersen concluded.

North Texas returns to the Super Pit for its final two games of the regular season, the first of which is a meeting with Louisiana Tech on March 1 at 2 p.m.
