Course Development

Many factors play a role in the design or redesign of a course, including, but not limited to:

  • Measureable goals and outcomes for student learning
  • Formative and summative assessments aligned with goals and outcomes
  • Content appropriate for helping students achieve goals and outcomes
  • Instructional strategies aligned with goals and outcomes and assessments
  • UNT Course Policies and Guidelines
  • Departmental requirements and student characteristics

CLEAR assists faculty with course design projects that consider these factors regardless of course format:

Face-to-Face Course Design and Development

The majority of UNT's courses are taught in the traditional, face-to-face method. CLEAR provides guidance and resources for faculty in these efforts. CLEAR initiatives and partnerships can provide additional resources and support.

Blended Course Design and Development

In a blended or hybrid course your class may meet face-to-face part of the time while using an online learning environment for completing other course activities and assignments. There is no one way to design a blended learning course, but CLEAR will guide you through the planning process so that your course makes the best use of both environments. CLEAR initiatives and partnerships can provide additional resources and support.

Online Course Design and Development

Online courses may be fully online or include a small number of on-campus meetings. CLEAR's instructional consultants offer expertise in the design, development, and facilitation of courses delivered in the online environment. CLEAR's production unit offers a full range of free media production services to UNT faculty for online and blended course creation and enhancement. CLEAR initiatives and partnerships can provide additional resources and support. To find out more about developing an online course, contact CLEAR at 940-565-2708 or email an Instructional Consultant.
