Objective
The objective of the Future Diversity Leaders program (FDL) is to identify 50 freshmen annually to participate in a three to four year scholarship program that focuses on leadership and includes internships at KPMG LLP. These students would be enrolled in or have intentions of being enrolled in the business school of their university, with the expectation that they would choose an accounting, finance, IT or other business major that would align with KPMG’s multiple practices and disciplines.
Students from Premier Schools and the Diversity 20 would be identified and sponsored by a professor from the student’s respective business school. KPMG’s Campus Recruiting team would review the nominations and select 50 students. The sponsoring professors for these students would serve as their mentors during their participation in the FDL program. If there are more qualified students than we can accommodate, they would be evaluated for other KPMG programs such as Discover KPMG or Fast Forward.
Criteria for Consideration
- Freshman enrolled in a business school or with the intention of enrolling in the business school.
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.5 after their first full semester in school. (In the first year of the program, strong sophomore business candidates, with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, may also be considered.)
- Students who were active members of diversity organizations or affinity networks in high school and who are currently active members of diversity organizations or affinity networks.
- Students who are active in campus or community activities, such as honor societies, accounting or other academic clubs, service organizations, student government, or other types of organizations at the university or in the community.
- Students who are not participating in other diversity internship programs.
Nomination Process
Nominations must be submitted to KPMG by the professor who will serve as the student’s program sponsor.
Note - A KPMG recruiter may also connect a student with a professor at his/her school. The professor would then determine whether or not to submit a nomination form for the student, and if so, would serve as the student’s program sponsor should the student be selected for the program.
Selection Process
- KPMG will review all nomination and application forms.
- Should the nomination and application be approved, KPMG will schedule a candidate interview. The interview would consider academic success, communication skills, ability to work as part of a team, and leadership skills.
- Participation in the program will be determined through equal consideration of the interview, candidate’s written essay and the professor recommendation.
- Students working to pay for education and their educational examination scores (SAT, ACT, etc.) may be considered as part of the overall application.
Role of Professor Sponsor and KPMG Mentor
- KPMG will review our list of faculty relationships at the Premier Schools and the Diversity 20 to select professors to invite to serve as participant sponsors in the program.
- Once the professors are selected and agree to participate, we will provide them with the nomination forms to use to identify which students to nominate.
- The professor sponsor and the KPMG mentor will provide mentoring and counseling to the student(s) as they progress in the program. The professor and KPMG mentors should meet independently with the students at least twice per semester (once per quarter) to discuss development topics such as: goal setting, how to get involved in leadership roles at their schools, time management skills, etc.
- KPMG will reimburse the professor for meal costs (up to an amount to be determined) incurred while meeting with the students each year.
- The professor sponsor and KPMG mentor will provide feedback to the KPMG recruiting team at the end of each semester/quarter on the progress and overall strengths and areas of skills development needed providing the opportunity to offer training or mentoring in this area.
