UNT Dallas has a diverse student population that is 83% Minority (41% Hispanic, 35% African-American, 3% Asian, and 4% other non-white), including first time freshmen, transfer students, veterans and graduate students. As the only public, doctoral granting comprehensive university in the City of Dallas – the hub of the State’s most densely populated region – UNTD is critical to achieving the State’s 60X30 Texas Plan.

Diversity at UNT
As it grows into one of the nation's largest research institutions with enrollment exceeding 37,000, our flagship University of North Texas (UNT) is keeping pace with changing state demographics. UNT’s Hispanic student population is 21% − a 54% increase from five years ago. And UNT is a top transfer institution, with a nearly 6% increase in first-time transfer students in the last five years.
The UNT Multicultural Center was established with the goal that it would be a place where students and community members could experience the cultural wealth of UNT, with a central purpose to teach diversity through student engagement and promote student success. The Multicultural Center celebrates diversity by planning, implementing and co-sponsoring programs that educate the center's five areas of diversity: race and ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, interfaith, and disability. Programs and activities sponsored by the center are developed with the intention of increasing the level of awareness, understanding, and consciousness regarding the diverse make up of our university, community, and global environment. Examples of these programs include Campus Safety Programs, Cafe Diversity discussion, Pride Initiatives, Dating and Domestic Violence Awareness, Disability Awareness, and celebrating Asian History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, Women's History Month and Native American Indian Heritage Month.
Diversity at UNT Health Science Center
The University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNT Health Science Center or UNTHSC) has received recognition for its longstanding history of programs aimed at increasing diversity within the scientific community. These awards include the Award for Excellence in Minority Recruitment from the National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals, designation as an NIH-Minority Access Role Model Institution, and the President’s Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering from the National Science Foundation.
UNTHSC created a Coordinated Plan to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in biomedical education and research. The plan includes funded and non-funded programs designed to:
UNTHSC's Center for Diversity and International Programming's pushes the University's goal to advance career paths in biomedical sciences and health professions that reflect our increasingly diverse population. To meet this goal, UNTHSC's objectives are to broaden partnerships (local, national and international), unify institutional pipeline programs, innovate education and training, and lead diverse constituencies to opportunities in biomedical/behavioral science career paths.
