CDR HERMAN REED

CDR Herman L. Reed

    CDR Herman L. Reed is a native of Saint Louis, MO. He graduated from Navy Boot Camp in November 1990 in Orlando, FL.  He went on to complete Enlisted Nuclear Power Electrician’s Mate studies at S1C Prototype and was selected for the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) program in San Diego, CA, finishing with the class of 1993. He went on to graduate with the Class of 1998 from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and completed Officer Nuclear Power studies at Ballston Spa, NY for service as a Submarine Officer. In February 2005, CDR Reed transferred to the Navy Human Resources Community.

    His career as a submariner included assignments aboard USS NEVADA (SSBN 733)(GOLD) as the Tactical Systems Officer and Chemistry and Radiological Controls Assistant from April 2000 until October 2003. 

 

   His significant career assignments as a Human Resources Officer include Officer Programs Officer, Navy Recruiting District, Atlanta from August 2005 until February 2007; Officer in Charge, Personnel Support Detachment, Whidbey Island from February 2007 until July 2009; an Individual Augmentation Assignment as Deputy J-1, CJTF-HOA, Djibouti from November 2008 until June 2009; Training Officer, USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) from August 2009 until November 2011; Branch Head, PERS-450 Navy Personnel Command from November 2011 until April 2014; dual-hatted as USMEPCOM 5th Battalion Commander and Seattle MEPS Commander from June 2014 until April 2015 and most recently at Navy Recruiting Command as Deputy Director, N72 Curriculum Development Division from April 2015 to October 2016.

 

    He is a recipient of various personal and campaign awards including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards) and the Navy Achievement Medal.
