Current Site Status

Five-Year Reviews are required to ensure long-term remediation controls are effective. The intent of these reviews are to evaluate how the remedy is working and is it still protective of human health and the environment.

In 2014, it was determined that some onsite monitoring wells were no longer needed and could be closed. In 2014, the Army National Guard awarded a contract for future groundwater monitoring, additional Five-Year reviews, and further investigations of Military Munition Response Program sites. Field work for additional investigations of new MMRP sites is anticipated for late 2015.

Site Background

The 14,949-acre Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant site is located near Doyline, Louisiana. It is a former military installation that the Army used to load, assemble and pack ammunitions items. Production took place intermittently from 1942 to 1994. During site operations, the Army disposed of untreated explosives-laden wastewater in on-site lagoons, contaminating soil, sediments and groundwater with hazardous chemicals. Following construction of the site’s interim remedy, groundwater monitoring and operation and maintenance activities are ongoing.
