WEARING A LEGACY
Marines with 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, participate in a ceremony honoring the legacy of the French fourragere award aboard Mari...ne Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Nov. 22, 2016. The French fourragere is a military award given to units, as a whole for meritorious actions of conduct in action. The heroic acts of valor made the 5th and 6th Marine Regiments the only two units of the American Expeditionary Force to receive the fourragere. Marines display the award with a green and red braided rope with a spike on the end worn around the left shoulder of the service alpha uniform.
