HAPPENING NOW: Camp Lejeune's Onslow Beach will be the site of this year's Trees for Troops free Christmas tree giveaway beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 2. Trees will be dispensed on a first come, first served basis. The event is open to all military ID card holders. One tree will be awarded per patron while trees last.

Trees for Troops, a program of the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation, provides farm-grown Christmas trees to military service members and their families stationed ac...ross the U.S. and overseas. Through cash contributions, Christmas trees donated by American farm families and the public, the work of many volunteers, and the generous support of their shipping sponsor FedEx, Trees for Troops has delivered Christmas trees to thousands of deserving service men and women and their families since 2005.

"This is great example of how our country cares for its Marines and Sailors who sacrifice so much throughout the year. The hundreds of Christmas Tree growers and individuals who donated are making this Christmas Season incredibly special for some very deserving service members and their families," said Brig. Gen. Thomas D. Weidley, Marine Corps Installations East - Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune commanding general.
