ALBANY, N.Y. -- Residents who are unemployed as a direct result of the recent flooding caused by Hurricane Irene may now be eligible for weekly benefit payments under the Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) program, state and federal officials announced today. “The DUA program extends coverage to self-employed people, farm workers and others who have lost employment as a direct result of the disaster,” Andrew X. Feeney, state coordinating officer, said. “It is specifically designed to assist those who are otherwise ineligible for state unemployment benefits.”

ALBANY, N.Y. -- A state and federal Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Essex County will close on Friday, October 7, according to officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The DRC, located at the Jay Community Center, 11 School Lane, Au Sable Forks, N.Y. 12912, closes on Friday, October 7 at 8 p.m.

ALBANY, N. Y.  – New Yorkers affected by Hurricane Irene have only 30 more days to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for possible federal disaster assistance. October 2 marks the halfway point in the 60-day registration period. It’s important that those who may need to register for aid do so as soon as possible. Registrations cannot be accepted after the October 31, 2011 deadline.

In the wake of flooding caused by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, state and federal officials are encouraging New Yorkers to sign up for federally-backed flood insurance.

ALBANY, N.Y. – Federal and state emergency management officials announced today that three more Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers (MDRCs) will open for three days, beginning on Sunday, to assist individuals, households and businesses affected by Hurricane Irene. MDRCs in Dutchess, Rensselaer, and Ulster counties will be open from Sunday, October 2, through Tuesday, October 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. After Tuesday the mobile DRCs will be deployed to other venues, but will return to each county at a date yet to be determined. ALBANY, NY – Valuable photographs and family heirlooms that have been damaged by flood waters can sometimes be saved if certain procedures are followed, say emergency managers and restoration experts. Photographs may be the only record of special occasions such as weddings, birthdays and graduations. Damaged photographs, for which there are no negatives, should receive attention first. It may not be possible to save photographs that have stuck together or become moldy.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has initiated a program, in coordination with State and local governments, to provide Temporary Housing Units (THUs) to New York communities hard hit by Hurricane Irene. “Temporary housing units are for people who need a place to stay, with utilities, while they repair their damaged homes,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Philip E. Parr. “Our goal is to help people repair their homes as quickly as possible. The temporary housing units meet short-term housing needs, while flood survivors make repairs.”
