Braithwaite, LA Plaquemines Parish September 25, 2012 AmeriCorps helps disaster survivors after Hurricane Isaac by gutting homes and clearing debris. Chris Liechty AmeriCorps Team Leader The Mission here is just to help alive the suffering that the people in this community have from Hurricane Isaac. Americorps partners up with different organizations in the area so right now, today, we're actually working with Operation Blessing. We sort out the piles depending on who is going to be picking what up. These suits and the masks and the gloves and everything, they're for our protection because when the homes flood the first thing that goes in the septic. So the septic rises so we have to wear these suits and the mask. Its gratifying but its also kind of hard, especially when you meet them because then you go into the house, there are certain things that even when there is 12 feet of water damage that people want to keep and so she explained to us what to look for and what to pull off to the side. Its also gratifying to be able to get in there, sweat and get as much done as you can. For more information visit www.fema.gov www.fema.gov/disaster/4080
